The ultimate sports floor must encourage optimum performance and safety whilst being easy to maintain.

Based on 22m solid beech wood boards (in three qualities - see opposite), Junckers has a full range of flooring systems that all comply with International standards and norms - click here to see details of these standards.

Promoting maximum performance, Junckers sports floors are designed to deliver shock-absorption, resilience and ball bouce, making them perfect for ball sports such as basketball and netball, aerobics, dance, gymnastics and many other indoor sports.

At the same time, the durability of the floors - combined with speocially developed sport finishes - offers superior friction qualities and therefore excellent protection against sports injuries.

The range of floor systems includes multi-purpose and high-impact batten-systems, portable floors and low elevation floating floors designed specifically for refurbishment projects.

Many facilities used for sport often play host to other events such as theatre, conferences and concerts. A junckers sports floor can be designed to support very high loadings, such as portable spectator seating and bleacher seating.

Junckers SylvaSport grades

Each of the Junckers undercarriage sytems is available with the following 3 grades of press dried solid beech flooring:

SylvaSport Premium - is the favoured surface for most sports use, as it has the most natural look

SylvaSport Classic - is chosen for a very clean uniform floor

SylvaSport Club - is a rustic look chosen for cost effectiveness

  • Junckers Sylvasport hardwood floors are manufactured from two rows of 22mm thick solid European Beech staves assembled into self-supporting boards by means of a carefully machined double dovetail joint. Tongue and grooved on all four sides
  • Being solid hardwood throughought, you can rest assured that the boards will not delaminate and will last far longer than other area elastic floors
  • The beech is press dried using Junckers unique press drying process to make the beech wood more stable and stronger
  • The uniform colour of the beech surface has the perfect light reflectance thus reducing the overall need for artificial light

Line marking

Naturally, your Junckers sports floor will require court markings to show the lines and courts required to facilitate the use of the hall for a potentially wide range of sports.

Continental will advise on all popular and minority sports and the best way to layout the lines so as to comply with regulations whilst minimising the confusion potentially caused by overlapping court markings.

Floor protection

Your Junckers or other type of sports floor is designed primarily for sports use. However, many facilities have to be used for other activities such as careers fairs, assemblies, drama, parties and social events, bring and buy sales, exhibitions etc. and you will want to protect the floor from spillages, outdoor footwear with grit brought in on shoes and stiletto heels.

We offer two types of protection depending on the effect you wish to achieve and the type of events you will host. Either floor druggets or Jumbo Tiles provide alternative solutions to this important consideration.

"Floors for Indoor Sports"

This guidance note discusses the range of floor surfaces available for indoor sports facilities and offers guidance on selection. It covers the various requirements of different sports and the extent to which some surfaces may be considered 'multi-sport' surfaces, together with design, cost and construction implications.

Standards and norms

Solid hardwood sports floors are designated as "area elastic floors" to provide the spring resilience and shock absorbing qualities neded for sports and dance use to minimise injury. If the floor is too hard the athlete and user will be exposed to early fatigue, and aching joints through to injury such as sprains, joint and shin bone damage.

If too soft, then ball bounce and running characteristics are compromised.

In the UK, hardwood sports floors are governed by a number of recognised standards:

  • All sports floors must conform to BS7044 Part 4 - this is the minimum Sport England requirement, with which your floor msut comply if it is part of a Sport England sponsored project
  • A higher more demanding standard for better quality sports and dance flooring is DIN 18032 Part 2
  • The newest - and the best - standard is the European Standard CEN 217. This standard has brought together all the best eprformance criteria from a number of current standards in the EU, including BS and DIN.

All Junckers systems fully comply with one or more of these standards. They ALL comply with the minimum Sport England requirement of BS7044 Part 4 compliance.
