Continental Sports is delighted to have successfully completed the supply and installation of sports hall equipment and gymnastics apparatus at the brand new Basildon Sporting Village.

This prestigious facility will not only be the best sports and leisure facility in Essex, it will be the best in the East of England. Aside from preparation from the 2012 London Games, this is the largest sports project in the Gateway. The Sporting Village will deliver a facility for the people of the region, equipped with a 50 metre international size pool, a bespoke gymnastics training facility, an 8-badminton court sports hall and much more, offering a wealth of activities and services for all. 

Continental have been involved in the planning and design of the gymnastics training facility and the sports hall for several years and were delighted to be appointed to undertake the supply and installation of the equipment for these key areas of the facility.

The project was particularly complex as we were undertaking separate pieces of work for South Essex Gymnastics Club who moved from a venue down the road into new bespoke premises within the Village, SLM/Everyone Active who are the leisure company operator of the Village, and Morgan Sindall who were the Main Contractor constructing the village.  All these works with different contracting parties were carried out on the site whilst still under the control of Morgan Sindall in a collaborative manor to achieve an on-time completion.

Our works in the sports hall included:

• Cricket netting and division netting
• Roof mounted electrically operated basketball goals
• Competition standard gamesposts and goals for badminton, volleyball, five a side and other sports
• Electronic scoreboard
• Practice basketball goals
• Table tennis tables
• Trampolining equipment

In the gymnastics training facility we undertook a particularly complex installation which combined:

• Supply and installation of competition and training gymnastics equipment
• Fit-out of foam filled gymnastic dismount pits
• Transfer of legacy equipment from the old gym (both Continental equipment and that of other manufacturers)
• Refurbishment of legacy equipment
• Manufacture and installation of a full suite of landing mats for all the apparatus designed in a bespoke manor to suit the Continental apparatus as well as that made by other manufacturers
• Installation of posture mirrors
• Cushioned carpeting on the floor area between apparatus

Continental are proud to have been involved to such a large extent in this important leisure centre project and wish the residents of Basildon, the members and coaches of South Essex Gymnastics Club, and those using the facility from further afield all the best for their sporting futures.
