Sprung loaded locking tube plunger for sideways hinged basketball goals
Sprung loaded locking tube plunger for sideways hinged basketball goals
This plunger is used on the telescopic locking arms of Continental's sideways hinged basketball goals (matchplay and practice).
If the sideways hinged goals are closed with the pin aligned so that it can protrude into the hole in the locking arm, and if the goal is swung quickly rather than slowly and steadily, the sprung loaded pin can pop into the locating hole and shear as the entire momentum of the goal is immediately stopped by the pin. This is misuse and is contrary to the operating instructions of sideways hinged basketball goals.
Sheared locking pins are of two types:
1) Removable type - as shown in the image - i.e. galvanised steel colour. These are on goals installed after December 2021 - but please check the body of the pin on yours is shiny metal colour and not painted before ordering.
2) Permanent welded type - self-coloured the same colour as the telescopic locking arm. If your locking pin is self-coloured the same colour as the telescopic arm (e.g. white or grey painted) then PLEASE DO NOT ORDER THIS ITEM AS IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR GOAL.
The removable type can be self-replaced by unscrewing the damaged pin and replacing it with a new one. Permanent welded type cannot be removed and an entire new locking tube must be purchased which must be made to order to suit your goal. Please contact us for a quotation if you have the permanent welded type.
The removable type locking pin is supplied with a replacement grub screw which is used to hold the pin in position in the locking arm.
